*CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician. In the state of Illinois, a certfied veterinary technician is a person who has completed a two year veterinary technology program at an Ameican Veterinary Medical Association accredited college. After 2 or 4 years of classroom lectures, labs and internships a graduate needs to pass a national licensing exam in order to become certified. Certified veterinary technicians are also required to attend a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education seminars in order to maintain their license. A CVT can also choose to become certified in specialty areas such as dentistry, emergency medicine, internal medicine or anesthesia. |
