Parasite Detection and Prevention

As part of their annual exam, our doctors will examine your pet for external parasites such as fleas or ear mites.  Blood is also obtained to screen for heartworm disease and certain tickborne illnesses. Yearly fecal testing is also recommended to detect intestinal parasites including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, coccidia and giardia.

Our dogs and outdoor cats are exposed to a variety of wildlife in the Chicagoland area, so year round use of comprehensive flea, tick and heartworm prevention is recommended.  Even indoor pets or those that spend a short amount of time outside are susceptible to parasites, so collaborating with your veterinarian to determine appropriate prevention is imperative to their health.
